Arc’teryx is a Canadian company founded in North Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1989. The name and logo refer to the Archaeopteryx, among the earliest known birds. The logo is based on the ‘Berlin specimen’ of the bird, the most complete skeleton found of the Archaeopteryx.
Arc’teryx was founded by Dave Lane and originally named Rock Solid. The company’s first line of products was climbing gear. Then-principal Jeremy Guard changed the company name to Arc’teryx in 1992 to reflect the company’s vision of creating disruptive ‘evolutionary’ innovation within the outdoor industry.
Arc’teryx’s designs have won a number of awards from Backpacker, Outside, Climbing, Men’s Journal, and Powder magazines.
