Five Ten or rather 5.10 where founded in 1985 by Charles Cole who named the company after the Yosemite Decimal grading system. Their first show was in fact the Five Tennie, a sticky rubber trainer and the first of its kind.
Cole himself, a Southern Californian based climber, made some pretty tough ascents in Yosemite valley and Joshua tree. It wasn’t long till the Five Tennie was the shoe of choice on the big walls.
Since they have given us Stealth Rubber and not only that, were one of the first companies to sell it separately so that climbers could resole their Five Tens and any other brands shoe come to that. Clever!
