The Grivel family started out as blacksmiths and in 1818 began experimenting with the first ice axes. Since they they have led the way in ice tools and a lot more besides. Their first front point crampon was met with real skepticism by the mountaineering world, but today we wouldn’t dream of using anything else. Their base in the Alps is run by solar power to minimise their carbon footprint.
