Fernand Petzl began producing caving equipment way back in the 1930’s and was a true visionary, helping to push the boundaries of this sport.
In 1970, together with his sons Piere and Paul, Fernand extended his production to include mountaineering equipment. They invented the first headlamp for mountaineers and since then have continued to innovate, inventing the GriGri and many other amazing products. The company is still run by Paul Petzl, Fernand’s son.
