Bounce testing your aid gear is an essential and sometimes terrifying part of aid climbing. Here’s a couple of tips to remember.
When bouncing, really bounce. You need to try and make the gear fail, so that when you fully commit to it you’ll be confident to get up into that top step and crack on. This of course does not apply to marginal gear such as copper heads etc.
Never look up at the gear while you’re testing it or this might happen!
Always wear eye protection of some sort. Cheapo sunglasses or cycling glasses work well.
